Social Security payment: Second half of direct monthly checks worth $1682 to be sent in five days – Washington Examiner

There are just five days remaining before beneficiaries of Supplemental Security Income receive the second half of their September payment.

Recipients will receive payments of $841 on Sept. 30, bringing the monthly total up to $1,682 due to a scheduling quirk in the program. Additionally, essential persons who live with an SSI beneficiary will also get a second payment of $421 on Sept. 30.

Payments for SSI generally take place on the first day of each month, but in 2022, the first day in January, May, and October are either a holiday or a weekend. Thus, the agency relies on double payments to offset the scheduling issue. The agency makes 12 payments a year.

SSI is a means-tested program that gives payments to the elderly, blind, and disabled who have next to no income. The average payment one receives is $624, according to CNBC.
